Working on a movie set

So, as you may or may not know, for the last week I have been working on a movie set with this guy I know who is trying to become a director.

The whole process lasted from Saturday morning until Thursday night, with many frustrations and much swearing involved, however it was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life, and has cemented my wish to pursue a career in film.

So, to start, the people who I worked with were some of the coolest people I have ever met, and they were awesomely nice, giving me heaps of tips and opportunities, and a few even told me to stay in touch so we could work together some more. One guy, Luke, told me to contact him about learning some 3D Animation stuff, as he has a major role in a studio in Sydney, and has mad contacts to get me into the industry. Long story short, I met some awesome people with hookups to get me into films easily.

The second thing that I will tell you about is the days. 5am start. 7pm finish. That's right, 14 hour days were the call, and it was brutal, gruelling, and AWESOME FUN! I didn't ever think that I would enjoy that, but the people there were so awesome and I had a mad time rocking out with all of them. I was mainly involved with the camera department, helping them lug stuff around, setting up a video split for the director, and generally helping anywhere I was needed in their area. It was a pretty damn stressful job as helping to take care of a $300,000 piece of equipment made me kind of nervous. Yes, the camera was $300,000, with an extra $100,000 lens kit.

Finally, I'll talk about the perks of my week. First, the free beanie was awesome. That's right, I got a free beanie with the name of the movie, "The Clearing", printed on it and the year and production company, it's basically rad. Second, the wrap party, which involved 10 cases of beer, about 30 bottles of wine, dozens of bottles of spirits, a popcorn machine, live music and rocking out with awesome movie people. It was SWEET.

So that's all I'm going to write about at the moment, if you want more details, then talk to me somewhere else and I'll give you some. Believe me, when I see all the boys tomorrow, they're going to hear all about it in detail :).

Thanks for reading, this is Luis signing off again.

The picture is of the movie studio's website. If you want to check it out, it's www.chaoticpictures.com.

Keyboarding

So today I wanted to clean my keyboard, properly. I roughly followed this guide to pull it apart, as I haven't done this before.
My problem with the "cleaning guide" is that I don't own a dishwasher...So I just filled the laundry sink with some nice hot soapy water, threw everything in there, cept the electronics of course!

Gave it a good wash, and while the plastic was wet and soapy I
used a very fine wet and dry sandpaper - bout 1000g - to lightly sand off the gloss.
I used Septone Vinyl & Plastic spray paint from Supercheap Auto to do the spraying, it was about $10 on special iirc.
It was a timely process, and took me about half a day, including
breaks and walks to the shop for food.

Nemesia was very kind and helped me put all the keys back on.
By this time my fingers were surprising raw from pulling apart plastic...yes I know I'm a total pussy.
Anyway, after about 50 screws and a few clips it looks pretty rad, and I'm happy with the result.

Cool Article aka OMGG ALIENZZZ!!

I thought this article was pretty cool so i'm going to post a link: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/technology/829707/saturn-moon-may-have-an-ocean-study/?rss=yes

Basically it's talking about how one of saturn's moons could possible have an ocean underneath the ground. If it does it means it passess the criteria for being able to have life grow on it, i didn't read all the article cos my brain stopped taking it in, but they probably disprove it. Other than that an interesting bit o' news.

Happy Simon!

I really wanna write something of substance...or even a rad victory speech...
but my head hurts at the moment, but I do have a gift for you all...

LYNCHY IS KING!!

The votes are in people. And at the end of 7 days the winner is.. LYNCHY!!

Here's how it all stacked up:
Lynchy: 11 (26%)
Liam: 8 (19%)
Anderman: 7 (16%)
Simon: 6 (14%)
Benno & Luis: 5 (11%)

Personally i'm a bit dissapointed that Liam didn't win as that's who i voted for. But the winner takes the spoils.

I Love Arrie

Entourage...
I think I have to put it on my list of "Top 10 TV Shows"
I am basically in love with the character of Arrie.
He IS the greatest man alive.
They all take shrooms in Episode 505 and it totally makes the whole show.
If you haven't watched the show, do it.

Chicken In A Mouse Wheel

Yea me and seth filmed this a while back, i just thought it was kind cool and decided to share :)

Design work

So, I finally finished all my TAFE work for this semester and I thought I'd give everyone a looksie at some designs that I made. Its pretty basic photoshop stuff, so don't rage me too hard :P. Here it is:

The first few are a design for a web site, name and content chosen for me, I just had to make the look. I made all the logos and the background from scratch in Photoshop, then shimmied it all into one document to finish it off, hope you like (pretty sure you can click on them for bigger views :D):

These are ones I just did for fun, more of the concrete texture because I thought it was pretty cool:

So yea, that's basically all that I'm going to show for now, hope you enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed making them :). Also, I learned none of this at TAFE, all was learned from online tutorials, so if you're interested in learning how, I'd recommend reading some from sites like PSDtuts (just type it into Google, don't know the exact address). Well, this is me signing off yet again :D,

Luis

It's that time of the night!

Here is my official selection for the Pic Of The Day on the 16th of June, 2009.

HE GOT THE SACK!

[Favourite Picture of the Day]

Ode to Ben's Previous Post

So as I sit here in my pajamas, staring blearily at the world as it comes at me from my monitor, water occasionally dripping down the inside of my walls due to the dodgy flooring in the kitchen directly above my room, I sit, and wonder if I'm tired of life.

But the answer is no. Even when life is being a bastard, like that tricky bastard who sits and hides and waits for you to come past then jumps out and yells "SURPRISE!" and makes you almost crap your pants, he's still an interesting person, and you still want to get him back, not just give up. Friends, those people that try to hide their identities in illustrious ninja costumes and capes and shit, they're really nothing more than a bunch of wankers just like you who want to have fun, rock out with you, and above all, they want to be a part of your life, they want to be close like brothers, but without the bitching, nagging, whinging brother shit that goes on. Money is fucked up, and I never have enough, but you know what, I still love spending it and it makes life that little bit more interesting. Sure, it'll make those hookers around the street corner look at you like your made of solid gold, but hey, they're not going to get any of this, because this is high class, this right here. I'm not tired of life, I love the thrill of backstabbers, bitches and bastards. I love having friends who will me to do so much stupid shit that in 20 years I'm going to look back and the embarrassment of that time if going to come flooding back. I love drinking with my brothers in arms, rocking to the beat of the DJ's spinning. But I AM tired of having not enough money to get to TAFE and back in my car...that sucks...

And as I sit here, trying to rip on my wise brethren, the illustrious BJ Bullivant, I'll look at the blinds that prevent me from seeing the horizon and hear the whisper "hey, you did you hear about the blind circumciser?"...

Luis

THE POLL!!!

Yes that's right readers! we have a poll up.
Now you can vote on your favourite K5 member :)

At the moment it looks like a competetion between Liam and Lynchy.. but Lynchy always manages to rig these things.. But we have 6 Days To Vote! so..

LET THE VOTING COMMENCE!!

Better then you.

So as I sit here pondering staring bleakly at the world from my window, rain streaming down
the walls of my abode. I sit, I wonder and Im tired of life.

life is like a big obstacle, in front of your optic wanna slow you down, an every time you think you've gotten past it its gonna come back, around and tackle you to the damn ground, what are friends, friends are people that you think are friends, but they really your enemies with secret identities, and disguises to hide they' true colours, so just when you think you close enough to be brothers, they wanna come back and cut your throat when you aint lookin, what is money, money is what makes a man act funny, money is the root of all evil, money'll make them samefriends come back around, swearin that they was always always down,
but it's life...im tired of life, im tired of backstabbin' ass snakes with friendly grins, im tried of commitin so many sins, tired of always givin in when this bottle of hennie wins,
tired of never havin' any ends tired of havin' skinny friends so full on crack and many things,
im tired of this Dj, playin your shit when he spins, im tired of not havin a deal, tired of havin to deal with this bullshit without grabbin the steel, tired of drowin in my sorrow, tired of havin to borrow a dollar for gas to start my monte carlo.

Any ways as I sit here trying to sound as wise like a 13 year old girl I'll look out to the horizon and I'll here the whisper " Woodrow...Woodrow.....Woodroowww"

Sucess!

I'm proud to announce Dump Time a huge sucess!
It's now 1:49am, and I still havn't finished my Marketing Assignment...
But it just feels like the weight of the world has been lifted!

Take me to the stars

WARNING.. DO NOT READ THIS.. ITS QUITE BORING.. EVEN TO ME.. AND I WROTE IT.

After many hours of procrastination tonight. Starting off by looking at cars I want.. Then leading to houses that I want to get..

I concluded that I need a job.
But getting a job is not merely as easy as just saying "I'll have one of them"
Its actually quite fucked.
I hate being an unqualified unskilled teenager.. Sucks big time..
I cant even get a job where I place tins of food from a box onto a shelf.

I now, even to possibly get a chance of getting a job, need to print out around 50 resumes and take them to various stores around Newcastle.. And even if I manage to get one interview from this. Chances are I wont get the job for various reasons. And even if I made it past those reasons I'd get turned down because I have spacers in my ears. Which don't effect my work ethic, or manner in anyway, its just because someone else finds something that I like ugly and they will judge my accordingly.

But I guess i took that into consideration when i started stretching my ears. And i accept it.

Anyway enough of that rant, and back onto topic.

I want to work in the sound industry, that's why I'm doing a sound engineering course, so I decided to look at studios within the Newcastle region. So far I found about 3 that Wernt just some guy working from home or a van (which I have nothing against, its just i doubt they'd want another employee). So tomorrow if i get a chance after doing my Tafe assignment Im going to email them with my resume. Unlikely that I will get a reply. But I am going to email them my resume every 2 weeks from now on, and if I get even some trainee nonpaid sorta work it would still be useful.... But in the sort term Im not sure if that is a viable option for my income, because even if i do get some casual work there, Its bairly going to cover my travel costs etc, but I will get experience, contacts which is what matters..

But in other news. I want to buy some recording equipment like mics, a pc interface, sound card, etc so i can do some basic recordings and get the hang of some programs. This will likely cost me a good part of $1k. But If I get some decent stuff that I can carry on to future recordings or sell on it will be all good. You gotta start somewhere! Im just wondering if having my own smallish recording studio is a viable idea or not.
I figure I can do fairly decent recordings with around $2-3k of gear... Another problem is finding decent rooms to record in.. Its just weither or not I would get enough business or not. But say if i did a bunch of small cheapish recordings for small local taree/newy bands or whatever, and did a decent job on them I might get a bit more known and hopefully get a bit more work.... But it could also all end in failure like most of my ideas!

But it is one of the few things that I feel i am passionate enough and keen to do. I dont think i could ever do a 9-5 job.. It would kill me.. I cant deal with the idea that nothing might happen the next day to change my whole job.. If that makes sense..

But yes. If i can get a small businesses loan from the government, It would be all good in the hood...

fuck.. I better finish this blog off.. Its getting a tad long...
Sorry if you read this.. haha
I also cbfd reading this to see if it makes sense

the end..

Late night/early morning thoughts

So, here I am, the morning (technically) after we created our first blog. I don't care what it says about when I posted this, here where I am, it's 1:24AM. I'm still up seeing as how these days I seem to be a nocturnal creature. Figuring on skipping TAFE tomorrow to work on my website assignment, and Lynchy agrees that this is a fine course of action.

Whilst pondering what to write in here, it did cross my mind that no one really reads our blog except us so far, and yet we still get uber excited about having one. I enjoyed this musing, and then realised I didn't really have anything to write about, and that I just wanted to blog for the sake of it. Therefore I have now officially run out of stuff to write. I think I shall head upstairs, grab some Nacho Cheese ALDI corn chips and watch something to finish my night off. Then it's off to a shower, then my nightly crunches till it hurts, then its really bed time. Chips here I come.

Signing off, Luis

Also, I have decided that at the end of each day I will post a favourite picture from that day. This one isn't from today, but it is the most truth I've come across in the past few. Enjoy.

Anderoverandout!

Land of the Lost

So tonight I went out and saw Land of the Lost, the new Will Ferrel movie, and let me tell you, I am very, very glad that I was being PAID to go, not because I'm some kind of movie reviewer, although I clearly deserve to be, but because McDonalds had a team meeting that I rocked. So, let me start with the word CHEAP. It pretty much sums up the whole movie. Cheap sets, cheap monster suits, cheap acting and cheap laughs.

Now I unashameadly admit that I am a fan of Will Ferrel's irreverent style of comedy, and personally I believe that he is one of the foremost comics of his time, however, even his attempts at humour were more often miss than hit. I'm sad to say that this movie, along with Semi-Pro, has lowered my opinion of not Ferrel, but the movie companies themselves, assuming that by throwing a comic genius at a movie, without a shred of script and with an incredible amount of budget cutting in order to maximise profit, they would make a blockbuster worth millions. Shame on you movie company, shame on you.

The cheapness of this movie, coupled with the dodgy script and the low-brow humour (of which I must say I am often a fan, they just didn't pull it off in this one) force me to give this movie my utter dissapointed face. I'm sorry Will, but this was terrible.

2/5 stars from me, may the next movie blow my f-ing mind.

Signing off, Luis, and yes, I am available for interview regarding a position as a movie reviewer at any major publication. SMH or one of those type papers would do just fine.

The Shooogy

Well today marks the first washing of the shooogy blanket.
Its taken on a completely different texture of smooth and silky...like a leopards belly.
Hopefully it forever stays that way.
Gibbos bits are a good way to end the night.

Im in a happy mood now.

Welcome to the shadow zone!

In the immortal words of Ben, our chosen lyricist for tonight, I would like to cordially (which means stickily, for the purposes of this sentence) welcome you to K5's brand new blog! Here the thoughts of the combined entity that is K5 will spill forth and become a source of comfort, and, I like to personally think, a source of warmth for all of you, our audience. As is stated above, welcome, my people, to the shadow zone! (It's not a shadow zone, nor is it particularly dark, apart from the theme, but last time I was at Ben's place he woke me up by yelling that, so I thought it would be a fitting beginning...). LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
